The account sharing crackdown has extended to Disney+. You can now only share your account within the Household. If you want to share with someone outside the household, you need to pay an extra fee. This guide will explain what a Household and Extra Member are on Disney+ and how to set them up, ensuring that you can share your favorite shows and movies with your family or friends.
Like many other streaming services, Disney+ allows you to share your account within the Household. People outside your Household can be added as an Extra Member.
A Household on Disney+ is all devices connected to your primary residence, usually through the home internet. Your Disney+ subscription can be shared through these Household devices.
To share your Disney+ subscription within your Household, the best way is to set up profiles. You can add up to 6 profiles (7 profiles in total) to your account. This allows each member to have their own watch history and personal recommendations.
While Disney+ allows users to stream on multiple devices, you can only watch on up to four devices at a time. If you share the account with more than four people, you may need to schedule your watching to avoid time conflicts. The Premium plan allows downloading content on up to 10 supported mobile devices, which can be an alternative when multiple people want to watch simultaneously.
For a family member or friend outside your Household, you can add only one Extra Member to your account. This Extra Member gets a unique profile with their own login and password and can stream and download content on one device at a time.
Disney+ can automatically detect and establish your household based on your internet connection, linked devices, and account activity. Devices regularly logging into your Disney+ account from the same internet are likely to be considered part of the household.
To set up a new device on your Household, simply connect to your home internet and log into your Disney+ account. Your device will be recognized as part of your Household.
If your device is not recognized as part of your Household, you may encounter the message “Sharing Disney+ outside your Household.” Select CONTINUE and verify the device with a one-time passcode sent to your account email.
When you’re travelling, you can still watch Disney+ on your mobile or laptop devices if you’re logged into your account. However, when logging into a new or TV-connected device, you may encounter “This TV doesn’t seem to be part of the Disney+ Household for this account” message:
You’ll need to enter the one-time passcode sent to your account email to verify the device with both options. Also, please note that you can only update Household 4 times per year. If you’ve used all the update times, you’ll need to contact Disney+ support to reset your Household location.
Only one Extra Member outside of your Household can be added to Disney+ subscription or bundle plans. You need to subscribe to the Extra Member add-on first and send out the invitation. Here is the cost of an Extra Member on different plans:
Plan | Plan Price (Monthly) | Extra Member Cost (Monthly) |
