Netflix used to promote account sharing, but that’s no longer the case. If you’ve shared your account with family or friends, you might be surprised by how many people are using it. Notice unfamiliar recommendations or shows you’ve never heard of in your Continue Watching section? Someone else might be logging in.

Netflix’s Premium plan allows up to 4 devices to stream simultaneously and 6 to download. The Standard plans (both the ad-supported and ad-free versions) limit this to 2 devices each. If too many people are using your account, you may be blocked from watching. To avoid this, check who has access to your Netflix account and remove unauthorized users.

Can You Share a Netflix Account?

Yes, Netflix allows account sharing within a household. Users living together in the same place – often defined by the same internet connection – can share a single account. In addition, Netflix offers the Extra Member feature for sharing with family members or friends outside the Household.

Netflix Plans and Sharing Limits:

Netflix plans allow users to stream and download with different numbers of devices, which can affect how many people you want to share the account with.

  • Standard with ads: $7.99/month, 2 devices (stream and download)
  • Standard: $17.99/month, 2 devices (stream and download)
  • Premium: $24.99/month, 4 devices (stream), 6 devices (download)

Extra Member on Netflix:

For people outside your household, Netflix offers Extra Member Slots for an additional fee. This allows you to add extra profiles to your account. Please note that Extra Members must be in the same country as the main account holder.

  • Cost: $6.99/month (with ads) or $8.99/month (no ads) per extra member
  • Availability: Not available for Standard with ads
  • Limits: 1 extra member on Standard, 2 on Premium
  • Device restrictions: 1 device for streaming and downloading
  • Profile restrictions: 1 profile per extra member

How to Kick Someone Off Your Netflix Account

If you see unfamiliar devices or access times on your Netflix account, someone might be using it without your permission. To prevent unauthorized access, consider the following three methods:

Method 1. Sign Out of Unfamiliar Devices

Not only can you see which devices have accessed your Netflix account in the past 90 days, but you can also easily sign out of any of them without interrupting other devices on your account. This is especially handy if you forgot to log out of a hotel TV or someone else has access to your account.

  1. Go to Manage Access and Devices on your Netflix app or web player.
  2. Click the “Sign Out” button next to any device you don’t recognize.

Method 2. Log Out of All Devices

If you have multiple devices linked to your Netflix account and can’t identify a suspicious one, you can sign out of all of them. This will force everyone to re-login, ensuring only the authorized devices can access your account.

Here is how you can sign out of all devices from your Netflix account:

  1. Go to Manage Access and Devices on your Netflix app or web player.
  2. Scroll down and click Sign out of all devices.
