Netflix only allows you to share the account within your Household. If you want to share with a family member or friend who doesn’t live with you, you’re required to purchase an Extra Member slot. What Is Netflix Household and Extra Member

As a result of the password sharing crackdown, Netflix uses Household to define who you can share your account with. Usually, it is based on the primary location where your account is used, and includes the devices connected to the internet at this address. You can use your TV to set up the Netflix Household. Otherwise, Netflix may automatically set it for you and cover any devices that access your Netflix account via the same internet connection as that TV. If you don’t watch Netflix on a TV, you don’t need to set the Netflix Household for your account.

The Extra Member is Netflix’s official, paid solution for sharing your Netflix account outside of your Household. Extra Members have their own login email and password. Please remember that the Extra Member needs to be in the same country as the account owner.

How Much Is an Extra Member on Netflix

Netflix primarily offers three subscription plans: Standard with Ads, Standard, and Premium.

Generally, you can only add Extra Members to the ad-free Standard and Premium plans. The Standard plan allows for one Extra Member, while the Premium plan allows for two.

For the Extra Member, you can choose between ad-supported and ad-free, with differing costs. The Extra Members can only stream and download on one device at a time and create just one profile.

How to Add an Extra Member on Netflix

You can add an Extra Member directly from the Netflix account page. If you watch Netflix on your TV, you also have the option to purchase an Extra Member slot and send out the invitation right from the Netflix app on your TV. Currently, the Netflix mobile app doesn’t support adding Extra Members.

On the Netflix Website

1. Log in to the Netflix website. Click your profile image and select Account.
2. Select “Buy an extra member slot.”
3. Choose Next to buy an extra member with ads. If you want to purchase an extra member without ads, click the “Or pay for no ads” button.
4. Select “Continue” to review your payment method and new billing date. Click Buy Now to confirm.
5. Enter the extra member’s name, email address, and your name. Choose Next to send the invitation to the extra member.
6. Choose to transfer an existing profile or create a new profile for the extra member account.
7. Wait for the extra member to activate the account by the link sent to their email. If you want to send the invitation link to the extra member directly, copy it under Account > Membership > ​Manage extra members.

On TV

1. Open the Netflix app on TV and select a profile.
2. Select “Learn More” when you see “Want to share your account with someone who doesn’t live with you? Add an extra member.”
3. Choose “Buy Now” or “Continue to Netflix” to review your new monthly payment amount and billing date. Select Next to purchase.
4. Enter the phone number of the extra member and select Send. An invitation link will then be sent to them via text message.

How to Cancel an Extra Member on Netflix

If you no longer need the Extra Member slot or you want to switch an Extra Member between ad-supported and ad-free, you’ll need to cancel the current one. Then you can add a new one if needed.

1. Visit netflix.com and log in to your account. Click your profile image and select “Account.”
2. Select “Membership” from the left-side menu and click “Manage extra members.”
3. Select “Cancel slot” and confirm by clicking “Cancel extra member slot.”
