Sometimes, you may need to change your Netflix country or region. Whether you’re traveling abroad and want to keep watching shows from home, or you want to access titles exclusive to other countries, switching your location gives you access to new streaming libraries. However, because Netflix determines your region based on your IP address, you can’t simply change your country in your profile settings.
If you move abroad permanently, updating your billing region requires canceling your subscription and restarting it in your new country. Due to regional licensing agreements, Netflix offers different movie and TV show catalogs in every country. The easiest way to access libraries from other regions is by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
A VPN reroutes your internet connection through a server located in another country, hiding your real IP address and making it look as though you’re browsing from that location. However, Netflix actively blocks IP addresses associated with VPNs. For smooth streaming, select a provider known for bypassing VPN blocks, such as NordVPN, Surfshark, or ExpressVPN. Switch servers if you encounter a proxy error.
Netflix doesn’t support changing your location directly on your account settings. If you move abroad, your account will continue to charge you in the currency and plan pricing of the country where you originally signed up. To permanently update your Netflix billing region, you need to cancel your current subscription, wait until your billing period ends, and sign up again in the new country.

To ensure your Netflix account defaults to your new country’s currency and regional catalog, sign up for a new account using a different email address while in your new location.
To retain your viewing history and recommendations, use Netflix’s profile transfer tool before canceling your old account. This copies your watch history, recommendations, saved titles (“My List”), and personalized settings directly into the new account.
Please note that the original account must be active when transferring the profile. Once the transfer is complete, you can safely cancel your old subscription. If desired, you can update your new account’s email back to your primary email address after the old account fully expires.
