Netflix is undeniably a highly popular streaming service, but even the most widely used platforms sometimes become less necessary in our households.
With Netflix’s recent crackdown on password-sharing in the UK, the US, and other regions, an increasing number of people are considering canceling their Netflix subscriptions.
Starting in March 2023, Netflix implemented charges for account sharing. If someone outside your household uses your account, they must transfer their profile to a new paid account, or you will be charged an additional $8 per month for that extra member.
Considering these developments, it’s worth contemplating whether it is still worthwhile to maintain a Netflix subscription or if it’s time to explore alternative streaming platforms like Apple TV, Amazon Prime, or other options available online. If you’re ready to streamline your streaming service subscriptions, we have a concise guide to assist you in making the transition.
To cancel Netflix subscription, you need to go to Netflix site in a web browser.
1. Open a web browser and go to Netflix.com.
2. Log in your account.
3. Hover the downward-pointing arrow in the top right of the page and then click “Account.”
4. Click “Cancel Membership” under Membership and Billing.
5. Click Finish Cancellation.
Cancellation will be effective at the end of your current billing period. Before that date, you can still stream and download Netflix movies and TV shows. After the cancellation takes effective, movies and TV shows you downloaded for offline playback will also become unavailable.
If you restart within 10 months, your profiles, favorites, viewing preferences and account details will be waiting for you. If you don’t resubscribe within 10 months, your account is closed. You’ll lose your profiles, watch list, watch history, and everything that allows Netflix to customize recommendations that match your viewing preferences.
If you’re considering canceling your Netflix subscription, it’s important to note that since Netflix operates on a monthly subscription basis without annual billing options, the timing of your cancellation doesn’t provide any significant advantages.
As mentioned earlier, regardless of the specific day you choose to cancel within a month, your Netflix plan will remain accessible until your next billing date, at which point it will expire.
When you cancel your Netflix subscription, downloaded movies or TV shows will remain accessible until your next billing date (You can find out when that is by checking the billing details in your account.) or their expiration date, which comes first. After next billing date, any downloaded movies or TV shows will no longer be accessible through the Netflix app. The downloaded content is encrypted and tied to your active subscription, so once you cancel, the decryption key is no longer valid. As a result, you won’t be able to play or watch the downloaded content offline anymore.
To keep Netflix downloads even after cancelling subscription, the best way is to download them to MP4 on Mac/Windows with the professional Pazu Netflix Video Downloader. Then you can get rid of all Netflix limitations and play them even after cancelling Netflix subscription.
