1. Sex Education: Season 4

Season 4 of Sex Education follows the gang as they meet new classmates at their fancy, inclusive new school. The cool kids are actually “the Coven,” a group of LGBTQ students who fancy themselves a source of positivity. Our returning Moordale favorites find themselves very intwined with this new group, and end up discovering new things about themselves along the way.

The acclaimed dramedy starring Asa Butterfield, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, and Gillian Anderson has been met with rave reviews since it first premiered on Netflix in 2019. It’s also been quite popular for the service over the last few years. Sadly, the adventure has come to an end for Otis Milburn and his friends, but they’re going out with a bang.

Sex Education Season 4 opened to 12 million total views during the Sept. 18-24 viewing window, subsequently ending the No. 1 streak of One Piece” on Netflix Top 10’s English-language TV chart and bringing the Moordale students’ story to a close on a high note.

2. ONE PIECE: Season 1

One Piece, a fantasy adventure television series, is a live action adaptation of the manga series of the same name by Eiichiro Oda, who served as a major creative consultant on the show.
The series premiered on August 31, 2023. In its first four days of availability, the live-action adaptation of the Japanese manga quickly sailed to the top one of Netflix’s top 10 chart and continued to hold the top spot for the next two weeks. Several outlets have called it one of the best live-action adaptations of a manga or anime series, considering it a major improvement over Netflix’s previous attempts, such as Death Note and Cowboy Bebop. Two weeks after its premiere, Netflix renewed the series for a second season, which is in active development.

The series follows the Straw Hat Pirates as they search for the “One Piece” treasure, which would make their captain, Monkey D. Luffy, the “Pirate King.” The Marines are chasing them, and they’re not the only crew looking for the treasure. With their skills and strong friendship, the Straw Hats are ready for the journey and committed to pursuing their dreams together.

The production budget of One Piece was approximately $17.27 million per episode, which equates to $138 million for the first season. One Piece reportedly had Netflix’s second-highest budget ever with only the fourth season of Stranger Things higher at $270 million.

3. Virgin River: Season 5

Virgin River is a romantic drama streaming television series originating from the Virgin River book series authored by Robyn Carr. The show’s debut season was released on Netflix on December 6, 2019, captivating audiences with its heartfelt storytelling. As of May 2023, the series received a renewal for a sixth season, much to the excitement of its devoted fan base.

The narrative of “Virgin River” revolves around Melinda “Mel” Monroe, who responds to an advertisement for a midwife and nurse practitioner position in the secluded Northern California community of Virgin River. She envisions it as the ideal place to embark on a fresh start, escaping the weight of her painful memories. However, Mel soon discovers that life in a small town is far more intricate and challenging than she initially anticipated.

4. Who is Erin Carter?: Limited Series

Erin Collantes, a British teacher living in Spain, suddenly becomes entangled in a supermarket heist. To her dismay, one of the robbers asserts that they recognize her, setting in motion a series of events that could potentially unravel her life.

5. Painkiller: Limited Series

Painkiller is an American limited drama series exclusively available on Netflix, conceived by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster. Spanning six episodes, this series draws its inspiration from Patrick Radden Keefe’s illuminating New Yorker article titled “The Family That Built an Empire of Pain” and Barry Meier’s book “Pain Killer: An Empire of Deceit and the Origin of America’s Opioid Epidemic.”

The show zeroes in on the origins of the devastating opioid crisis, with a particular focus on Purdue Pharma, a pharmaceutical company owned by the Sackler family, most notably Richard Sackler. Purdue Pharma was the manufacturer behind OxyContin, a drug that played a pivotal role in the epidemic. The Sackler family has been branded as “the most evil family in America” and labeled “the worst drug dealers in history.”

Painkiller made its debut on Netflix on August 10, 2023, providing viewers with a thought-provoking exploration of the complex and deeply troubling circumstances surrounding the opioid epidemic.

6. Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal: Season 2

Season 2 of “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal” also opened high on the chart, taking the No. 2 slot with 7.6 million total views in its first five days of availability.

Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal is a true crime television series that premiered in 2023. The show delves into the intricate web of events surrounding the Murdaugh family and the highly publicized trial of Alex Murdaugh. It commences with the tragic death of Mallory Beach, serving as a catalyst for the unfolding drama.

The first season of the series debuted on Netflix on February 22, 2023, followed by the release of the second season on September 20, 2023. Each season is comprised of three episodes. The first season of the series also experienced a resurgence among the top 10, joining the Top 10 in 10th place with 2.4 million total views.

The Murdaughs, a prominent and influential family in South Carolina, find their reputation tarnished when a fatal boating accident sets off a chain of events that unravels their legacy. Subsequently, the series delves into the unsettling murders of Maggie Murdaugh and her son Paul, shedding light on a century-long saga of corruption, power, and a web of cover-ups that has captivated the public’s attention.

7. Predators: Season 1

Netflix is adding to its growing arsenal of nature documentaries with the new co-production Predators. Predators is a nature docuseries that goes to different locales and shows how the world’s best predatory species survive.

Per Netflix, here’s what you can expect from the five-episode series: “In this captivating nature documentary series, five predator species around the world work to survive in their environments. Experience life through the eyes of cheetahs, polar bears, wild dogs and more of the planet’s most powerful hunters as they fight to maintain their dominance. Academy Award nominee, Tom Hardy, narrates this heart-pounding nature documentary series”.

8. Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons: Season 7

“Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons” is a gripping television documentary series that provides an intimate look into 19 different prisons across the globe. The series predominantly offers insights from the perspective of prisoners but also includes the viewpoints of prison guards and individuals who interact with the penal system.

The inaugural season, hosted by Irish journalist Paul Connolly, originally aired on Channel 5. However, starting from the second season, the series was commissioned by Netflix and was presented by UK journalist Raphael Rowe. Notably, Rowe had previously served 12 years in prison for a crime he was ultimately acquitted of, lending a unique and personal perspective to the show.

As of the seventh season, which was released on September 15, 2023, “Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons” continues to captivate audiences with its in-depth exploration of the challenging and often harsh realities within correctional facilities around the world.

9. Surviving Summer: Season 2

“Surviving Summer” is an Australian teen drama series that made its debut on June 3, 2022, exclusively on Netflix. The initial season comprises 10 compelling episodes. Exciting news arrived in November 2022 when the series earned a renewal for a second season, which premiered on September 15, 2023.

The storyline revolves around the tumultuous life of Summer Torres, a rebellious teenager from Brooklyn who faces expulsion from her high school. Her mother’s old friend in Australia offers a solution by inviting her to stay with their family. Once in Australia, Summer finds herself drawn into the world of competitive surfing, mingling with a group of determined surfers, setting the stage for a gripping and transformative narrative.
