HBO Max has been availabel to millions of AT&T customers in the United States at no additional charge since it launch on May 27, 2020.
Then on May 23, 2023 Warner Bros. Discovery announced a relaunch of HBO Max as just MAX. This new service will include content from Discovery+ and a ton of other features.
The good news is that certain AT&T wireless and internet plans continue to include free access to Max. Despite the name change, the inclusion of free Max remains unchanged within these specific plans.

Customers with plans that included the HBO Max Ad-Free plan ($15.99 value) now have access to the Max Ad-Free plan ($15.99 value) that replaced it.
4K is no longer available in the new Ad-Free plan. However, Chris Willard, a WBD spokesperson, tells The TV Answer Man that all HBO Max subscribers will have access to their current plan features for a minimum of six months after Max’s launch on May 23. That includes the AT&T subscribers. That means you can continue to watch 4K in your $15.99 plan without upgrading until at least November 23.

There are a few catches, though. First, if you switch AT&T plans, you will lose access to Max as new AT&T plans do not offer Max as AT&T no longer owns HBO Max.
If you purchased Internet 1000, 2000, or 5000 within these date ranges, you received access to Max at no extra charge.
