Amazon Prime Video is not officially available as a built-in streaming app on Tesla vehicles the way Netflix or YouTube are. Tesla’s entertainment suite (Tesla Theater) includes only a limited set of supported apps, including Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, YouTube, etc., but Prime Video does not appear on that list, meaning you can’t simply open a native Prime Video app from the touchscreen.

If you still want to watch Prime Video in a Tesla, practical methods involve workarounds such as:

Contents

  1. Watch Prime Video in Tesla via browser
  2. Watch Prime Video in Tesla via Plex

1. Watch Prime Video in Tesla via browser

  1. Open the Tesla web browser and visit testube.app.
  2. It uses a YouTube redirection to work on full screen, hence click YES – GO TO SITE.
  3. Tap Prime Video.
  4. Log in your account.
  5. Select a video and start streaming.

2. Watch Prime Video in Tesla via Plex

Or you can upload videos to Plex and watch Plex in a Tesla using the built-in web browser. Plex works well in a Tesla when parked via the web browser and is one of the best options for watching your own media on the Tesla screen.

How to watch fullscreen Plex in Tesla?

Option 1 Go to sites such as abettertheater.com or testube.app and tap Plex.

Option 2 If you only want to access Plex, and not have a selection of services that requires an extra click. Add this URL as a bookmark and you’ll get straight to Plex:

https://www.youtube.com/redirect?q=https://app.plex.tv

Click “GO TO SITE” and login, next time your credentials will be saved, and you’ll only have to tap the bookmark to get to Plex.

To avoid the errors when playing media such as “s3014 (Media)”, you need to:

  1. Disable HW transcode for HVEC content:

Settings->Transcoder: Enable HEVC video Encoding (experimental) = Never

2. This one avoids choppy video playback:

Settings->Plex Web->Debug: Use alternate streaming protocol for video playback = Check

You can also check “Automatically adjust quality (Beta)” if the stream buffers too much. If you’re still having issues, you can also disable “Direct Play” and “Direct Stream” under Settings->Plex Web->Debug.
